Whether you make it as a cocktail or a mocktail, this sparkling mint julep is a lovely drink for a celebration! Large hats optional.
Let’s believe in celebrations, darlings. Life brings so many challenges it’s easy to forget to celebrate, and yet celebrate we should. And we should wear large, decorative hats while sipping something sparkling, because why not? Whether it’s for a Derby party or just because, I’m loving this sparkling mint julep at the moment.
The blood orange vesper martini is a dramatic cocktail inspired by a classic espionage love story.
When it comes to this time of year and the focus on all things pink, red, and love, I think of James Bond. I know, how romantic, but follow me here. If you put his vices and tendency to get himself into dangerous situations aside, James Bond exhibits qualities one would find really attractive: he’s a sharp dresser, exudes confidence, is witty, and has an uncanny sense of knowing exactly what to do in any given situation. Despite his reputation as a womanizer, James Bond is also a man who knows how to fall in love, and that is the inspiration for this drink. I take you to the first James Bond novel, Casino Royale, and the story of the Vesper martini. (more…)
A perfect drink for cool evenings and changing seasons, the Bourbon Maple Leaf cocktail is great for sipping alone or pairing with cool weather comfort food.
Bourbon is one of my favorite spirits. This is strange for someone originally from Florida, where depending on which side of Lake Okeechobee you live it’s a toss-up between rum and Jack Daniel’s. Bourbon was something I wasn’t exposed to until college, and since then it has been my liquor of choice for pairing with barbecue and other meat dishes, to prepare brine for turkey, or to just enjoy on the rocks. Add a fall twist to your post workout recovery or meal replacement with this pumpkin spice mocha protein smoothie!
On our road trip last month, the Godfather and I stopped at a rest stop somewhere along the highway to grab a coffee to share. I don’t remember the highway, nor the exact coffee shop. What I do remember is the different take on the classic pumpkin spice latte that we tried! I am not a pumpkin spice latte lover – one a year and I’m good. I’m more a salted caramel mocha girl in the Fall if you were wondering. Nevertheless, while waiting in line for coffee, I spied the feature drink being offered, a pumpkin spice mocha, and I was curious. We tried it, and it was fabulous! I think the tiny hint of chocolate with the coffee and pumpkin spice really made the latte special. We must use these flavors and make other tasty things, yes? (more…)
Soothe a sore throat with one of my favorite natural remedies, a ginger turmeric sore throat soother!
Early this year, I was introduced to cooking with fresh turmeric, and I now use it whenever possible in lieu of dry. Not only is it supposed to be super good for you and full of great anti-inflammatory curcuminoids, it tastes good. With seasonal colds starting to make the rounds in the Godfather’s office, I knew I needed to prepare just in case any germs enter the house. (more…)
