Raid the garden, farm stand, or the grocery store so you can make this delicious strawberry basil lemonade from scratch! It’s the perfect summer drink to take you from porch to park to beach.
I am a devout water drinker about 10 months out of the year. You will usually catch me walking around with a water bottle in my purse, refilling it multiple times a day. That is, until the dog days of summer roll around and the temperature hits 100 or something equally ridiculous. Then I want something a little more exciting than a twist of lemon to make drinking water more interesting, so I indulge in some homemade lemonade! (more…)
It takes just a few minutes (and only 1 flavor of ice cream) to make this delicious and easy Neapolitan milkshake. Vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate make the perfect treat on a hot day!
In second grade, my teacher used to hold ice cream parties each Friday if the class accomplished certain goals that week. We looked forward to it all week, and it was an extra exciting week if we got Neapolitan ice cream because you could ask for three flavors in one scoop! Of course, my friends and I always waited until it melted a bit and then mixed it up to make a thick “ice cream soup”, so I’m not sure why it was so exciting, but it was, and the idea of three flavors in one sip was the inspiration behind this easy Neapolitan milkshake! A key lime margarita is an easy, tasty cocktail to enjoy during the summer months!
Quite a few years ago, I went through a brief period in time where I would actually stop flipping channels and watch “Real Housewives of Whatever” while I folded laundry. One of those days, watching a show from one of those cities, I happened to catch one of the housewives ordering a “skinny margarita”, which she explained was simply tequila, triple sec, and lime. She saved calories by skipping the mixers common in restaurant margaritas, and was still able to enjoy drinks with the girls. I was curious, so I asked the Godfather to make me one that evening, and since that day, we haven’t made margaritas with mixers. (more…)
Fresh turmeric is probably one of the trendiest ingredients you haven’t heard of, but you should know about. It’s often used in savory dishes, and it is a natural anti-inflammatory. Purported to have health benefits acting as treatment or prevention for all sorts of things because it contains curcumin, I suppose it falls under the “super food” category, but there isn’t solid scientific evidence yet for most of the benefits. It is still really good for you, and it tastes amazing, especially when blended into this bright fresh turmeric smoothie. (more…)
Before the Godfather, I was that girl at the coffee shop who ordered the too-sweet latte with more milk and sugar than coffee because I had no idea how to drink coffee because I didn’t know how to make it! A salted caramel mocha latte would have been right up my alley, only much *much* lighter than what you see in the photos. But since one of the Godfather’s major food groups is coffee, I learned how to make it properly and enjoy it much more, even when I order the “girly” drinks. We even make it a point to travel to local roasters and sample different blends and varieties, purchasing some to enjoy at home later if we love it. (more…)
