1950’s Housewife Tea Party

1950's

I absolutely love retro styles and especially retro entertaining! Dinner parties, recipe clubs, gatherings with friends are such a fun and simple way to make memories and build community and friendships. With summer just around the corner, I decided to invite over a few girlfriends and celebrate warmer weather by holding my very own 1950’s Housewife Tea Party! Instead of a traditional sit down tea, I opted to serve Lipton iced tea and give the party a very slight tiki twist inspired by one of the new Lipton herbal tea flavors, Peach Mango. Imagine a tiki-style afternoon ladies’ gathering at June Cleaver’s house. (more…)

Valentine’s Day Cookie Decorating Party

Everything you need to know to plan a STRESS FREE Valentine's Day cookie decorating party for toddlers. This play date party is a sweet way to celebrate Valentine's Day and a fun indoor activity for winter weather.

Had I read today’s post as little as 3 years ago, I would have thought I had lost my mind. Who invites 8 toddlers over to their house to play with frosting and sprinkles??? Apparently, I do. Cleanup was surprisingly quick too thanks to a few tricks in the setup, so I even got to enjoy a cup of tea during nap. This is how you throw a party, darlings!  (more…)

My Thoughts on the GMO Labeling Act HR 1599

A food blogger and mother's heartfelt reaction to HR 1599.

This week, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that prevents the labeling of GMO foods – H.R. 1599. This means that large companies can use genetically modified ingredients in food and sell, without a label, to consumers – even using words like “all natural” and “healthy” – neither of which have any legal standard for their use in food. I am heartbroken. I’m not sad because our diet is perfect, it’s not, but I try to make the best decisions I can for myself and my family, as I’m sure you do too, and this GMO Labeling Act makes it that much more difficult.
