With a rich, mellow garlic flavor, black garlic makes a fantastic addition to hummus. It’s easy to make black garlic hummus in just a few minutes as a healthy snack or appetizer!
You’re probably wondering what black garlic is and why we’re using something that looks burnt in hummus. While this Wikipedia article can help with loads of details and a history of black garlic, I’ll give you a quick overview here. Black garlic is basically garlic that’s been heated over the course of several weeks so that it basically caramelizes. The cloves are soft and have a very mellow garlic flavor as opposed to the sharp flavor you find in fresh garlic. In terms of flavor, think of it as being one step beyond oven roasted garlic in terms of mellow-ness. (more…)
Slow cooker guava glazed meatballs is a great dish to serve at parties! This recipe is a unique spin on traditional slow cooker meatball recipes.
The first time I truly understood the power of the slow cooker meatball as a powerhouse appetizer was at my baby sister’s rehearsal dinner. To keep costs down, they opted to have a casual rehearsal dinner with a mix of homemade and store-bought foods. I made a few easy desserts and large lasagnas and bagged salad was purchased at a warehouse club. For appetizers, we served a few assorted purchased items, and slow cooker meatballs. Easy to make with just a few ingredients, this crazy feta dip copycat recipe is inspired by a local to us quick service chain restaurant, CAVA Grill.
About a year or so ago, a local blogger friend of mine, Sarah from Capital Moms, was hosting a blogger event to celebrate the opening of a local restaurant’s new location. I decided to attend and totally fell in love with the place. Cava Grill is a local chain that serves Mediterranean food in the “walk through a line and pick your base/protein/toppings” format so popular nowadays. The Godfather and I like it, and we’ve been to several locations since that initial event, because it’s good food. The nearest location is about 20 minutes away in decent traffic though. So naturally, I took some inspiration from their menu, and I replicated their crazy feta dip and make my own crazy feta dip copycat recipe. (more…)

See what I did there? 😉 (more…)
Game day watch party food can be a challenge when your team is in a different time zone. Incorporate traditional tailgate foods with a morning twist when you add breakfast jalapeño poppers to the menu!
The Godfather and I follow our college football team each year. It’s our alma mater, where we met, got engaged, and were both members of the marching band. I played clarinet and convinced him to join the drum line for a year where he played cymbals since that was all he could play with no musical experience. I make his life interesting. When we moved to California, we found ourselves facing a bit of a conundrum for early football games. When we could catch a University of Miami football game on television, the times would seem a bit funny. A 12 noon game would start at 9 in the morning, closer to the start of our day (before children) than lunch time. It felt strange to serve “traditional” tailgate foods for game watch snacks, so we got creative! (more…)
