Forget the can and make a childhood classic at home! This vegetarian alphabet soup recipe is easy to follow and definitely qualifies as comfort food!
Sometimes, life just falls into place in a funny way at the grocery store. One minute, you’re casually perusing the pasta aisle, and the next, you’re sprinting to the produce section to load up on fresh tomatoes because you *have* to make soup immediately. What happened, you ask? I spied a bag of alphabet pasta! How could I not get excited about alphabet pasta? Even though I actually wasn’t a fan of the canned alphabet soup as a kid, I do love fun pasta shapes, and we all know a homemade alphabet soup is going to be amazing. (more…)
Slow cooker guava glazed meatballs is a great dish to serve at parties! This recipe is a unique spin on traditional slow cooker meatball recipes.
The first time I truly understood the power of the slow cooker meatball as a powerhouse appetizer was at my baby sister’s rehearsal dinner. To keep costs down, they opted to have a casual rehearsal dinner with a mix of homemade and store-bought foods. I made a few easy desserts and large lasagnas and bagged salad was purchased at a warehouse club. For appetizers, we served a few assorted purchased items, and slow cooker meatballs. Can you guess what disappeared first? (more…)
A splash of bourbon adds a perfect kick to this easy homemade bourbon butterscotch pudding!
It feels like I’ve spoken more about simplicity recently. Sometimes to share how to make the seemingly complicated accessible, but mostly because it’s a theme on my mind as the year’s end approaches. Or maybe it’s just my current love of remaking childhood/retro recipes. It’s not gelatin-mold salad-level love just yet, but definitely pudding-level. I didn’t see gelatin mold salad outside the grocery deli case until adulthood though… South Florida isn’t “that” Southern. 😉 (more…)
Fresh cranberries and in-season pomegranates make a perfect pairing in this easy slow cooker pomegranate cranberry sauce recipe!
Last year, I really fell in love with fresh cranberries. I put cranberries on baked brie, in orange bars, scones, nothing was safe! In fact, our cranberry sauce last year was just an extra batch of the topping I made for the baked brie. But this year, when I picked up fresh cranberries, I wanted something different. Having just been lured into purchasing a small mountain of gorgeous ruby pomegranates, combining cranberries and pomegranates into a sauce only seemed natural. I’m glad to report that the results are delicious, and with the help of a slow cooker, easy! (more…)
Peanut butter pumpkin blondies are a delicious alternative to brownies in the fall. Festive, and easy to make, they’re a great gift or easy dessert.
Strange as it sounds, you may thank a protein smoothie for this peanut butter pumpkin blondies recipe. I was on a pumpkin mocha protein smoothie kick for about a week, and the only can of pumpkin I could find in my cabinet was one of those monster cans that has enough puree for 2 pies. Given that I don’t drink a protein smoothie every day, and that each smoothie only requires a bit of pumpkin, I had quite a bit leftover. Which could have become something healthy, but why? It would throw off our fabulous balance. And I’ve also really wanted brownies recently. This is the perfect solution! (more…)
