I heard a radio DJ yesterday listing off four or five words that women hate to hear in conversation. I agreed with a few, because they’re just awkward words to used outside of very specific situations, but curd was on the list and I’m not sure why. Do people use the word curd outside of describing foods like cheese curd, lemon curd, lime curd, and the topic of today’s post – orange curd? How would you even do that? There was no mention of curdle the verb, just curd, the noun. I just don’t understand how this could make the list of top five words women don’t like.  (more…)

Last week I posted a recipe for almond cake from scratch, and I frosted it with a creamy, crusting raspberry buttercream made with fresh raspberries. It was such a delicious combination, and I’m glad Tara at An Aiming High Wife requested the recipe! When my mother was in town last month, we picked up some medjool dates at the local warehouse store where we have a membership. I kind of felt like a kid in a candy store when we made the purchase because neither my mom nor I usually buy dates at home because neither my dad nor my husband are fans, and it’s a caloric nightmare to eat a huge box of dates by oneself. But they are so good, one of my favorite foods, and I enjoyed sharing them with my mommy while she was here.  (more…)
