I never thought this margarita was going to make it to the blog, because it’s been on my list 3 years now. 3 years! Isn’t that wild? Finding the correct ratios to get the drink just right with easily sourced ingredients was a challenge. This spicy guava margarita needed to be right though. I wanted to recreate a drink I had on one of my last outings with friends in California.
Not long after we moved to California, I started what would become my last office job. And in that job, I met a lot of people. Some were lessons, and others beautiful souls I’m lucky to still call friends. I’m not keeping up with them as well as I’d like in my current season of life, but that doesn’t mean I care for them less. But I really should drop them a line to at least say hi. It’s beyond overdue and I miss them.
Back to this drink though. Just before I left, a few of my girlfriends got together and organized a night out in Santa Barbara. We started with dinner, and then hopped around a few places on State Street to dance. I love dancing, and it meant a lot that these ladies took the time to plan and attend a little au revoir get together for me. At the restaurant, everyone ordered a cocktail to try with dinner because their specialty cocktail list was fantastic! I had a guava habanero margarita and immediately sent a picture to the Godfather and told him we needed to make it at home. But then we moved across the country, and never really got to it. We tried a few times, infusing tequila, a few methods for processing the fruit, and it wasn’t quite “it”. In one test round, the Godfather had been a little enthusiastic with the habanero infusion, and the drink was waaaaay too spicy, so I basically shelved the spicy sweet margarita idea for the sake of my taste buds!
That is, until I met the Amazon team at the Sweets and Snacks Expo in Chicago. While Pablo, the representative we met with shared their sauce lineup and a little about the company, I zeroed in on their Hot n’ Sweet Guava Sauce and the cocktail came to mind. I tried the sauce, but since it’s mild, it didn’t have enough heat for me to recreate that drink. But with so many sauces to choose from, I knew my answer to this drink was literally right in front of me. Mixing the guava sauce with a bit of their Green Amazon Pepper Sauce was the *IT* moment. Problem solved, and we celebrate with margaritas for all!
We really like how versatile the entire Amazon hot sauce lineup is. Each sauce is different – yes, there is a marked difference between a red and green hot sauce – and the flavors are incredibly well thought out. You can taste the quality, and I love how the company partners with small farmers in the Amazon jungle to source their peppers. Be sure to check out Amazon on Facebook and Instagram and order some sauces on their website. And because I love you, we’re running a giveaway!
