We own 3 different kinds of coffee maker in this house (stovetop espresso, French press, and pour over), so you’d think both the Godfather and I are coffee people. Not so. He’s the resident coffee-lover, and I am resident tea hoarder. I do enjoy coffee, but tea has so much variety and is so versatile! You can drink it or bake with it! In fact, the idea for these earl grey cupcakes with honey buttercream frosting came to me over an afternoon cup, and I’m rather proud of them. Before I got into cookie decorating, I always wondered how cookie artists achieved consistent results over dozens of cookies. In some cases, it’s pure skill. Absolutely marvelous inventions, but expensive, and requiring more space than justifiable for a hobby artist like myself. I’m a big fan of melting chocolate right into cake batter. I like my chocolate cake to taste distinctively of chocolate. The only problem with that is that sometimes, like when baking cupcakes, it doesn’t really result in a domed cupcake. I also like domed cupcakes. So once I realized people were using my perfect chocolate cake recipe as cupcakes and getting flat tops, I set about modifying the recipe to create chocolaty chocolate cupcakes. I had a wonderful group of friends, played sports, was in band, all the typical “high school” things. The only thing I didn’t do was date, which now that I look back was a good thing.
