One of my first summertime memories is sitting on our apartment steps with my mom and sisters eating frozen popsicles. Sometimes we would make the frozen pops ourselves with fruit juice, and sometimes we would buy from the store, but we would always enjoy them outside on a hot summer afternoon. Being of the “young at heart” crowd, I wanted to have a little fun with this summer memory and combine my love of frozen pops with another love of mine, interactive desserts!
These chocolate dipped frozen fruit bars seemed like such a perfect idea for a party. There is literally 5 minutes of prep time, maximum, because all you have to do is pour toppings into bowls, melt some chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler, and unwrap your favorite fruit pop! In minutes, everyone gets a customized summer dessert and you didn’t break a sweat. See what I did there? 😉
Since we’ve been enjoying all our fruit fresh these past few weeks, I decided to just hop over to Wal-Mart to pick up Outshine® Strawberry Yogurt Bars and Outshine® Lime Fruit Bars. Strawberry yogurt is a favorite flavor of mine, and I chose the lime fruit bars because I’m a Florida girl and I love citrus. The bars are also made with real fruit and vegetable juices, and I love that the company is almost completely GMO-free and plans to be completely GMO-free by the end of the year! There are a variety of flavors to choose from, so definitely head over to the novelty ice cream aisle next time you’re at Wal-Mart and check it out. If you’re in store the weekend of July 14th there will be free in-store sampling demonstrations.
Once you’ve picked your bar flavors, be sure to grab some chocolate – any kind will do – bars, chips, candy making wafers, and an assortment of toppings. I chose to mix it up and use a combination of virtuous and indulgent toppings: granola, mini chocolate chips, chia seeds, chopped nuts, sprinkles, and coconut flakes. Get creative! I melted both dark and white chocolate so we could really customize our pops, but my favorite combinations won out for photos – dark chocolate and strawberry, white chocolate and lime. We tested lime and dark chocolate too, also delicious.
I hope you enjoyed this really really really really really really easy summer dessert idea!
